The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals has started a program that outlines health certifications as required by the parent club of each breed. Dogs that complete all of the tests, regardless of the test result, are awarded a CHIC number.
The hopes of starting this program is that more people will want the prestige of having a CHIC number and will complete the tests required. This too, will help gather real statistics about the health of lack of in an individual breed.
You will see when they are obtained, the CHIC results on each dog’s webpage.
CHIC also has a DNA database that can be used by researchers to help identify genes and diseases. All of my dogs will eventually participate in the DNA program.
